How to Look Up Your Nevada CNA License

1

Open the NSBN license lookup

Go to nvbn.boardsofnursing.org/licenselookup in any web browser. This is the official Nevada State Board of Nursing license verification tool, available 24/7 at no cost.

2

Select CNA and enter search criteria

Choose 'Certified Nursing Assistant' as the license type, then enter the CNA's first and last name, or their CNA certificate number. The search supports partial name matches if you are unsure of the exact spelling.

3

Review status, expiration, and discipline

Results display the CNA's full name, certificate number, current status (Active, Inactive, Expired, Disciplined), expiration date, original certification date, and any public disciplinary actions or restrictions on the credential.

4

Contact NSBN for primary source verification

For employer pre-hire primary source verification, NSBN issues an official verification letter on request. Submit the request through the Nevada Nurse Portal or call (888) 590-6726 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.

About the Nevada Nurse Aide Registry

The Nevada Nurse Aide Registry is maintained by the Nevada State Board of Nursing (NSBN), the same regulator that licenses RNs and LPNs. NSBN tracks every CNA's certification status, training history, fingerprint clearance, and any disciplinary action. Certification is processed through the Nevada Nurse Portal at nvbn.boardsofnursing.org/nvbn, where applicants and licensees manage their entire CNA record.

Public verification is available 24/7 at nvbn.boardsofnursing.org/licenselookup, where employers, the public, and prospective patients can confirm a CNA's status, expiration date, and disciplinary record. NSBN also offers a secure message center inside the Nevada Nurse Portal for licensees to communicate with the Board about renewals, fingerprint reports, and address changes.

Testing services that feed the registry are contracted to Credentia, which delivers the NNAAP-style knowledge and skills exam at sites in Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City, and Elko. Once Credentia reports passing scores and the FBI/Nevada DPS fingerprint report clears, NSBN issues the permanent CNA certificate and posts the candidate's status as Active on the Nevada Nurse Aide Registry.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I look up a Nevada CNA license?

Visit the NSBN license lookup at nvbn.boardsofnursing.org/licenselookup. You can search by first/last name, license number, or license type (CNA). The search returns current status (Active, Inactive, Expired, Disciplined), certificate number, expiration date, and any public disciplinary history. There is no fee to use the lookup and it is available 24/7.

How often must Nevada CNAs renew?

Every 24 months through the Nevada Nurse Portal. Renewal requires 24 hours of CNA-related continuing education and documentation of at least 40 hours of paid CNA employment during the two-year cycle - higher than the 8-hour minimum that many other states use. Fingerprint-based background clearance is also required for renewal.

What's the difference between NSBN and the Nevada Department of Health for CNAs?

In Nevada, CNAs are regulated by the Nevada State Board of Nursing (NSBN) - the same board that handles RN and LPN licensure - not by the Department of Health. NSBN approves training programs, processes applications, contracts with Credentia for testing, and maintains the Nurse Aide Registry. The Department of Health regulates the facilities where CNAs work but does not license the CNAs themselves.

How long does fingerprint clearance take in Nevada?

NSBN warns applicants that Nevada DPS and FBI fingerprint clearance can take up to four months. A permanent CNA certificate will not be issued until both reports are received by NSBN. The Board strongly recommends submitting Livescan electronic fingerprints (rather than ink cards) and starting the process while still in training to avoid post-exam delays.

Does Nevada accept out-of-state CNA reciprocity?

Yes. CNAs in good standing on another state's nurse aide registry can apply for Nevada reciprocity through the Nevada Nurse Portal. You must submit fingerprint-based background clearance (same as new applicants), verification of your home-state certificate, and proof of recent work hours. If you haven't worked the required hours, NSBN may require you to retake the Credentia competency exam before adding you to the Nevada registry.

How do I contact the Nevada State Board of Nursing for registry questions?

NSBN's toll-free number is (888) 590-6726 and the Las Vegas direct line is (702) 486-5800. Email is [email protected]. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. The Las Vegas office is at 5820 S. Eastern Ave Suite 200; the Reno office is at 6005 Plumas St., Suite 100.
