The Maine Medical Center is one of the biggest hospitals in Maine and offers CNA training to students interested in becoming certified nursing assistants. They have partnered with Portland Adult Education to offer two hundred hours of state approved CNA training classes. The CNA training course offered by the hospital includes classroom lecture, lab work and clinical training.
The clinical training allows CNA trainees to look after patients in the hospital’s surgical and medical units. Candidates need to attend an information session and sit for a reading comprehension test for admitting themselves into the course. The course is held from 8 am 2 pm on from Monday to Thursday and includes certification and CPR training. The duration of the course is eleven weeks. Students eligible for the CNA training program at Maine Medical Center are not required to pay for the course. The training is free for them and the cost is paid by the hospital. On successful completion of the course the students take the Maine Nurse Aide Certification Exam. The CNA training program is offered three times in a year – September, January and March.
To enroll in the program, you must attend an information session with the following documents:
- Application form
- Two copies of photo id
- Copy of graduation certificate
- Two copies of social security card
- State Bureau of investigation form
- Two references in sealed envelopes
All CNA training courses in Maine must consist of at least 150 hours of classroom lectures and clinical practice. Nursing homes and other healthcare facilities hire employees as CNA and gives them CNA training. If you are employed with any of these nursing homes and healthcare facilities then you don’t have to pay for the course. Your employer will take care of all the costs associated with your training.
The state of Maine will finance your course as long as you get employed as a certified nursing assistant within a year of graduation. You can find cost-effective CNA training programs at community colleges and private schools. These courses usually take about three months to complete. The Waterville Regional Adult and Community Education Program offers a CNA training program of 150 hours at a fee of $450. The fee includes the cost of text books, tuitions, graduation and tests.
